1. About this policy
1.1This privacy policy explains how Kahu Group Limited (we, us or our) handles personal information collected through the website at kahu.dog (Website). We are a company in New Zealand. This policy covers the Website only. It does not cover the Kahu mobile app, which will have its own privacy policy.
1.2The Website does not ask you to create an account.
1.3The Website is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have, we will delete it.
1.4We may update this policy by publishing a new version on this page. The date at the end of this policy changes when we do. Last updated 7 October 2026. Earlier versions are kept at kahu.dog/privacy/versions.
2. Information you give us
2.1If you join the waitlist, we collect your name, your email address, and whether you want to join a closed test or wait for public launch. If you join the closed test, we also collect which phone you will test on (iOS, Android, or both) and, if you give them to us, the Apple ID email or Google account email we should use for a test invite.
2.2If you email privacy@kahu.dog or support@kahu.dog, we keep what you send, including your email address and your message.
2.3If you suggest a feature on the Website, we collect the title and details you enter, and your email address if you choose to leave one.
3. Cookies and technical information
3.1We use cookies to remember choices you make on the Website. kahu-locale stores your language and currency for up to a year. kahu-theme stores whether you prefer a light page, a dark page, or the same as your device, for up to a year. kahu-preview is set only if you unlock pages that are not public yet, and it lasts 30 days. You can clear these cookies in your browser. The Website still works, but we will not remember those choices.
3.2We read your browser language and the country of your connection, as reported by our host, to choose a default language and currency. We do not save that country against your name or email.
3.3We use your IP address for a short time to limit repeated form submissions. That record expires within an hour. Our host may also keep ordinary server logs, which can include your IP address and browser type, so the Website can run and stay secure.
3.4We ask before setting analytics cookies. Until you accept, Google Analytics stays in a cookieless mode. If you accept, Google Analytics may set analytics cookies so we can see which pages help people, including a waitlist signup. If you reject, those cookies stay off, and any analytics cookies already set are removed. We do not use advertising cookies. Your choice is kept in this browser as kahu-consent, and we ask again after six months or when what we measure changes. You can change your mind at any time from Cookie settings in the footer.
3.5Our host may record which crawler fetched a page, as a daily total of crawler name and path. That log has no IP address and no cookie. It is not a count of human visits.
4. How we use information
4.1We use this information to run the waitlist and email you about the closed test or public launch, to send the confirmation you asked for, to reply to your messages and feature suggestions, to remember your language, currency, and appearance, to understand which Website pages help people when you allow analytics, and to limit abuse of the Website.
4.2We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
5. Who we share it with
5.1Vercel hosts the Website. Resend stores waitlist contacts and sends waitlist email. These providers may process information outside New Zealand, including in the United States.
5.2Feature suggestions are stored in our own systems. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics receives page and event data under their terms. We do not pass your waitlist details to anyone else for their own marketing.
5.3A current list of these providers, with what each one does for us and where it processes information, is published at kahu.dog/privacy/subprocessors.
6. How long we keep it
6.1We keep waitlist details until you ask us to delete them, or until we no longer need them to tell you about the closed test or public launch.
6.2We keep emails and feature suggestions for as long as we need them to reply and to remember what you asked. You can ask us to delete them sooner.
6.3Google keeps analytics data under their retention settings for the property. Crawler fetch totals are daily counts of crawler name and path, not tied to your name or email.
7. Your requests
7.1You can ask us to see, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you from the Website. Email privacy@kahu.dog. You can also ask to be removed from the waitlist.
7.2The Privacy Act 2020 (New Zealand) applies to personal information we hold. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
